Care assistant

Do you have a passion for care and a heart for people? Then the job of care assistant or care expert is for you!

At the Familiehulp training centres, you can follow free training to become a care assistant or care expert. Familiehulp has training centres throughout Flanders and Brussels. After the training, you can start working in home care or residential care.

Familiehulp offers this course in two tracks, depending on your current level of Dutch.

Both courses are modular.

  • A 13-month modular course – 4 days of lessons per week.
  • A 15-month modular course with additional support for the Dutch language – 4.5 days of lessons per week (only available at the Aalst and Vilvoorde training centres).

Increase your chances of getting a job in the healthcare sector.

After completing this training, you can work as a care assistant in home care or in an institution, for example. For example, in a home help service, in home care, in a residential care centre or in a residential establishment for the disabled.

There are many job opportunities. Many graduates are happy to join Familiehulp.

  • You are at least 18 years old.
  • You are registered as a jobseeker with the VDAB.
  • You are medically fit to follow the programme.
  • For the 13-month programme, you have a sufficient command of the Dutch language (spoken and written) – entry level 2.4.
  • For the 15-month course with additional support for the Dutch language (Aalst and Vilvoorde) – entry level language 2.1.
  • You have the necessary basic skills: these will be assessed at an interview with the candidates.

 

You may request exemption from one or more training modules under the following conditions, for which you must be able to provide documentary evidence.

  • You have already undergone training in the field of healthcare, which you completed in full or in part without obtaining a certificate.
  • You have a relevant training certificate.
  • You have professional experience in the healthcare sector.
  • Practical: body care, cooking, maintenance, laundry and ironing, ergonomics.
  • Theory: care, human relations, law.
  • Theoretical and practical courses alternate throughout the course.
  • In-company work placements in your region.
  • A 13-month modular course – 4 days of lessons per week ;
  • A 15-month course with additional support for the Dutch language – 4.5 days a week (only available at the Aalst and Vilvoorde training centres).
  • The training is free;
  • You retain your right to unemployment benefit during the course;
  • Transport costs to and from the training centre and courses are reimbursed;
  • The cost of looking after your children up to the age of 12 in a recognised institution is reimbursed.
